Today, September 25th, is my 15th birthday. I’ve had a great weekend feeling “pompeyed”, as Mrs. Joe Gargery would put it. I’ve eaten a lot of junk, slept over with friends, and even got a new phone. HTRLLAP: How’d He Do That? Analysis of Memory, Pattern, and Symbols
The introduction to How to Read Language Like A Professor by Thomas C. Foster begins with the fact that teachers and students are not often on the same page, at least thought wise, while reading the same book. Foster concludes that this is simply because experienced readers have acquired a certain understanding of the “language of literature”; that is, the meaning of the symbols and patterns and their similarities to other pieces of literature. These patterns and symbols, along with the memory necessary to be able to make connections, all impact the meaning of literature.

Throughout the beginning of Dickens’ novel, it is revealed that Pip has obviously had a turbulent childhood, due mostly to his abusive guardian and older sister, Mrs. Joe Gargery.
